Minogue: No Audit, No Respect in Healey’s Budget

HAMILTON, Mass. — Following the announcement of Governor Healey’s budget, Mike Minogue, Republican candidate for governor, released the following statement:

“Governor Healey’s budget asks taxpayers to trust an administration that still refuses to complete the audit 72% of Massachusetts voters demanded. Instead of respecting the taxpayers’ mandate, the Healey administration continues to block the audit while rolling out another budget built on assumptions taxpayers can’t verify.

“Not another penny should be spent or another dollar taken from taxpayers until the audit is done. Without a completed audit, this budget comes with unanswered questions about waste, mismanagement, and priorities. Accountability isn’t a political talking point; it’s the basic responsibility of leadership.

“Families across Massachusetts are forced to live within their means every day. They know exactly where their money goes because they have no choice. Meanwhile, the political establishment continues to over tax, overspend, and over-regulate. Since Maura Healey has taken office, she has ignored the audit of the legislature and provided no transparency on waste and mismanagement. In her 3 years, this is the largest increase in spending by a governor in Massachusetts history, and we have nothing to show for it. We are last in jobs and second highest in debt per capita. This is why Bay Staters will continue to be pummeled by taxes, driving away more people and businesses.

As a new kind of governor, I will deliver the independent audit voters demanded and put accountability and affordability at the center of a budget that works for Massachusetts.”
