HAMILTON, Mass. — Candidate for governor Mike Minogue today called for a temporary gas tax holiday in Massachusetts, saying families and working people need immediate relief at the pump.
Massachusetts drivers pay a 24-cent-per-gallon state gas tax regardless of whether gas costs $2 or $5 per gallon, and whether they’re driving a semi-truck to work or taking the family car to get their kids to school.
Minogue laid out his proposal in a statewide ad released today, arguing that the gas tax is adding to the financial pressure facing Massachusetts families and workers.
“A gas tax holiday is a common-sense solution for hard-working Massachusetts families. The Legislature must put the people first and get this done,” said Minogue. “As governor, I’ll do the audit and free up millions lost to waste, fraud, and abuse, allowing us to provide relief to Massachusetts families.”
Minogue said a temporary gas tax holiday would put money back in drivers’ pockets while fuel prices remain high. He calls on Massachusetts residents to join the movement and support the proposal.
