Mike Minogue, a New Kind of Governor, Wins Debate as Maura Healey Offers No Solutions on the Issues That Matter Most

BOSTON, Mass. — Mike Minogue won the WBZ debate against Governor Maura Healey, who failed to offer real solutions on the issues that matter most to Massachusetts voters: the audit, energy prices, and the high cost of living. Voters looking for answers on the questions that affect their daily lives instead saw a governor who could not defend her own record.

Minogue argued that Healey and the political insiders around her have run out of answers. Throughout the debate, he said, she struggled to explain her record because it is difficult to defend. Families across the Commonwealth are being squeezed by sky-high costs, heavy taxes, a housing shortage, failing student scores, inflated energy bills, unfunded state pensions, and record-breaking state spending. For many households, he noted, those pressures are not abstract. They show up every month in the grocery bill, the heating bill, and the tax bill.

On education, Minogue pointed to Healey’s refusal to opt into the Federal Scholarship Tax Credit, a program that thirty states have already joined. Even The Boston Globe’s editorial board urged her to accept the funding, yet she continues to leave it on the table. Minogue said the decision puts party politics ahead of kids from hard-working families, who are the ones paying the price when opportunities are turned away. At a time when student scores are failing to meet expectations, he argued, Massachusetts cannot afford to pass up resources that could help children learn.

Minogue also took aim at the corrupt culture of Beacon Hill, where political insiders have run the state for decades under a broken one-party system. He pointed to the $2 billion Springfield courthouse as a clear example of the sweetheart deals those insiders collect while taxpayers foot the bill. That kind of spending, he said, is exactly why accountability matters and why Massachusetts needs a governor who answers to the people rather than to the political establishment. As governor, he pledged to serve the people of Massachusetts on the audit and every other issue, and to put them first, not party politics.

On energy prices and the cost of living, Minogue contrasted his approach with a governor who offered no new answers for families struggling to keep up with inflated energy bills, rising taxes, and a housing market that has become out of reach for too many.

The debate, Minogue said, made the choice for voters clear: continued one-party control and a record that cannot be defended, or a new kind of governor focused on the people of Massachusetts.
